An email is in circulation which claims to have been sent from INOVA but is actually a fake that is designed to trick the recipient into infecting their system with a computer virus.

 

The text of the message reads:


Dear Customer,

This e-mail was send by inovafcu.org to notify you that we have temporanly prevented access to your account.

We have reasons to beleive that your account may have been accessed by someone else.

 

Please click on the following link (or copy & paste it into your web browser):

 

http://<domain_removed>.it/instructions.exe

 

(C) inovafcu.org


Clicking on the link will download the virus.

 

If you receive this email, please do the following:

1. Delete the email.


2. If you have already clicked on the link and believe your system may be infected, clean your PC with an anti-virus program immediately.


A free anti-virus program called MalwareBytes is available at: http://www.malwarebytes.org


To protect yourself and your personal information, please be wary of such messages in the future. Some hallmarks of fraudulent emails include: misspelled words, poor grammar, links to foreign or unknown websites, and the use of scare tactics to try to worry users into following bad hyperlinks.

 

As further protection, always be sure that you have up-to-date anti-virus software on your computer.
